MailMate runs between your email server and email client software (such Outlook, etc), and all emails are filtered by the MailMate's filtering system. With MailMate, your email application will receive filtered emails from MailMate instead of directly receiving them from the email server. Thus you can receive emails directly and needn't to kill spams on the server beforehand as some other anti-spam softwares do.

Note: As your email application receives emails form MailMate, you should set the interval for MailMate to receive new emails from the email server to an appropriate value (default is 10 minutes), so as to receive new emails in time.

The following are two email-processing modes, one is normal receiving mode, and the other is the email-processing mode with MailMate:

How Does MailMate Determine Spams

How to filter spams efficiently without misjudging normal emails? MailMate's filtering system has adopted a unique filtering technique that integrates identifying both contents and features of emails:

1) Preset list of Friends' addresses and Blacklist
To ensure that emails from your friends and work will arrive your inbox favorably all the way. And at the same time, the blacklist can block some spammers completely.

2) Large Built-in rules
This software has a large built-in keywords stock, in which these keywords are often contained in spams. Also wildcard is supported, and the user can add new keywords at any time.

3) Identify main features of spams
Not like other anti-spam software, MailMate not only filters spams on the basis of certain keywords, preset blacklist or friends list, but also analyzes each email, identifying spams through general features of them. For example, as spammers always use false address, MailMate will lookup the email server of the sender to see if it exists. On the other hand, spammers always add many comments to the email contents to separate some keywords just to escape keywords filtering. Conventional anti-spam software is unable to do that, while MailMate can identify this kind of spams accurately after analyzing their contents. MailMate also can identify other features of spams, such as the TO or CC list dosen't contain your email address, the email contains a large number of pictures from external servers, etc.

4) Block Emails Containing Specific Character Sets
You can select to block emails containing Japanese, Korean or Chinese characters according to your demands.

5) Other email filtering setting
You can also set filtering conditions through email priority level, email attachments, or country of sender mail address.

How Does MailMate Deal With Spams

For the safety of your emails, emails determined as spams by MailMate will not be deleted immediately. They are temporarily put into a "Quarantine Area" that you can check at any time, and deal with emails in the "Quarantine Area", for example, you can reply a mock returned email to the spammer so as to puzzle him, making him believe that your email address does not exist. Of course, the mock returned email is sent in the name of your email system, not your email address; you can also directly kill the spams; or when you find one email you want, you can also transfer it to the normal email queue to receive it.

You can preview contents of emails in the "Quarantine Area" safely. MailMate only show the text context of these emails, you won't be afraid that viruses contained will auto run or send your information to spammers.
