Q. What is MailMate?
MailMate is a junk email blocking system. It is as if
a filtering net has been added between your email server
and email client software (such as Outlook, Eudora), all
emails entering your inbox should be filtered by MailMate,
ensuring that you will not be disturbed by spams and email
viruses. What MailMate tries to achieve is to keep you
away from the pain of spam without affecting your email
receiving habit.

Q. How Does MailMate Work?
MailMate runs between your email server and email client
software, and all emails are filtered by the MailMate's
filtering system. With MailMate, your email client will
receive filtered emails from MailMate instead of directly
receiving them from the email server. Thus you can receive
emails directly and needn't to kill spams on the server
beforehand as some other anti-spam softwares do. Furthermore,
MailMate can bounce back unwanted e-mails so it looks
as if your email address is not valid. This will make
the sender think your address is no longer active so your
name can be removed from their list. This unique feature
is great for privacy and it couldn't be simpler!

Q.
What operating system must I be running to be able to
use MailMate?
Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP and Windows 2003.
Top
Q. What email clients does
MailMate work with?
MailMate works with all POP3 email clients such as Outlook
Express, Eudora, Incredimail, Pegasus, Mozilla, Netscape,
Becky!, The Bat, etc.
Top
Q. Need I abandon my favorite
email application after selecting MailMate?
No, you needn't. MailMate will never try to replace your
favorite email application, instead, it will work
with your email client software. MailMate filters emails,
while your accustomed email application takes charge
of checking and managing your emails.
Top
Q. Need I start MailMate
before receiving emails to kill spams on the server?
No, you needn't. MailMate does not work as some other
anti-spam software, which should be run before receiving
your emails, and killing spams on the server to allow
you receive emails by your email application. This method
divides a simple process of receiving emails into two
steps, and it must be switched between the anti-spam software
and the email application, which is rather bothering.
Furthermore, this type of software always directly kills
spams from the server, so normal emails may be deleted
by accident to cause irretrievable loss. Considering the
defects of this type of email filtering software, MailMate
is designed to adopt a unique way. MailMate will run between
your email server and your email client software.
It receives emails from your mail server (time receiving
can be set) and filters spams by filtering technique,
and then your email client software will receive
the filtered mails from MailMate. MailMate will filter
all the emails on the background for the most time, and
you can as usual receive emails by your accustomed email
processing software as if MailMate does not exist, while
the difference is that the emails are all filtered by
MailMate. What MailMate tries to achieve is to keep you
away from the pain of spam without affecting your email
receiving habit.

Q. Will emails from my
friends be deleted by accident?
No. MailMatee does not immediately delete emails determined
as spam, but put the spams into a "Quarantine Area". And
you can transfer the spams in the "Quarantine Area" to
normal emails. Furthermore, you can also preset a friends
list to ensure that emails form your friends will enter
your inbox favorably.
Top
Q. How many email accounts
does MailMate support?
MailMate will support as many
email accounts as you need. You can configure MailMate
to retrieve mail from an arbitrary number of accounts
to which you have access, even if different accounts are
on different servers or with multiple ISPs. If
you acquire more email accounts, you can easily add them
into MailMate.
Top
Q. As my ISP (or email
application) offers spam blocking, do I still need MailMate?
The anti-spam function provided by the email service provider
commonly lays particular stress on keywords filtering,
while MailMate not only has a large spam features word-stock,
but also filters emails according to other features of
spams, for example, it validates if the email server used
by the sender exists (i.e. validate the trueness of the
sender's address), if the email contains pictures from
external servers, if the email contains suspicious html
tags such as activeX and iframe. And with MailMate, you
can manage all emails at local without the need to log
in the email server to see if there are misjudged emails.
You can also take advantage of special functions such
as sending mock returned emails to the sender to hide
your email address. Anyway, you can try MailMate yourself
to find more inspiring functions.

Q. Is it safe to preview
email in MailMate? Will viruses hidden in emails
autorun?
It's absolutely safe. MailMate views the suspicious emails
in the form of pure text, and it will never run programs
contained in the messages. You needn't to be afraid that
your information will be sent back to the originator of
the message by those suspicious emails when you view them.

Q. How to configure
my email application to make MailMate work with it?
If you use email application such as Outlook, Outlook
Express or Eudora, MailMate can automatically configure
it for you. To automatically configure, select menu "Tools"
-> "Configure Email Client Program". If you are
using other email applications, such as Netscape, Mozilla,
or the Bat, please refer to "Configure
Email Application" to get more information on how
to configure email application manually.

Q. If my email service
provider doesn't provide POP3 email service, can I use
MailMate?
MailMate only supports POP3 mailbox at present, we will
add support to other mailboxes in the later version.
Top
Q. What's the effect
to send bounced emails to spammers?
Bounce back unwanted e-mails so it looks as if your email
address is not valid. This will make the sender think
your address is no longer active so your name can be removed
from their list. This unique feature is great for privacy
and it couldn?ˇĄt be simpler!
Top
Q. What does the bounced
message look like?
Send yourself an email, then bounce it. The
message will be bounced back to the sender and they will
receive an email similar to a returned mail message you
would receive if you sent an email to a wrong address.
Top
Q. Will the spammers
know I am bouncing emails? and will my email address be
exposed?
the bounced messages look exactly like a returned mail
message you would receive if you sent an email off to
a wrong address. There is no way the spammers can tell
it is not genuine.
Top
Q. Some messages cannt
be bounced back, why?
If the spammer provides no email address or bogus email
address (spammers always use bogus email addresses or
never provide email address), the system is unable to
send bounced emails. Should this occur, you just need
delete these messages.

Q. Why it prompts that
Port 110 has been occupied as soon as I start MailMate?
MailMate will monitor through Port 110 on your computer
after startup to communicate with your email application,
making it be able to receive emails from MailMate. This
port commonly will not be occupied. If it happens, please
check if MailMate has already been started (try to run
MailMate repeatedly), or it has been occupied by anti-virus
or firewall on your computer. If you are using a software
firewall such as ZoneAlarm, you may be prompted several
times for client and server permissions when you run MailMate
for the first time. In general you should just allow all
the permissions requested.

Q. Why Rich Text Email
show source code (HTML code) when being previewed by MailMate?
Many email viruses are spread by hiding in the html codes.
MailMate shows html codes when previewing webpage emails
and won't automatically interpret these webpage codes
just for safety. By previewing in source codes of webpage,
spams can be determined without being afraid that viruses
in the webpage will autorun. And as MailMate is an email
filtering system, emails are only buffered in it and will
be processed by your email application finally.
